Traction automation system TEO

Traction automation system TEO

The traction automation system is a family of protection devices designed for various fields of DC substations and auxiliary substations. These protections feature configurable functions, enabling operation within substations at voltage ranges from 660V to 3.3kV DC. The system is based on the SESTO E1000 series controllers and is intended for use in protecting rectifier stations operating in railway, tramway, trolleybus, and metro traction systems.

Key Functions of the TEO System:

  • measurement of traction voltages (660V DC, 3300V DC),
  • measurement of currents in traction power supplies, rectifier units, and return cables (total substation current),
  • monitoring of unequal cable load distribution,
  • recording fast current and voltage waveforms,
  • recording averaged voltage and current values,
  • event logging,
  • protection for traction power supplies and rectifier units:
    • undervoltage protection,
    • overvoltage protection,
    • fast overcurrent protection,
    • time-delayed overcurrent protection (16 thresholds),
    • rate-of-current-change protection (di/dt);
  • configurable protection settings,
  • local/remote control capabilities,
  • self-diagnostics,
  • line test automation for traction power supplies and automatic reclosing systems (AR):
    • support for low-impedance line testing automation,
    • support for high-impedance line testing automation;
  • traction power supply lockout,
  • rectifier unit operation automation,
  • communication with external devices,
  • implementation of fast circuit breaker interlocks,
  • engineering channel support.

Primary Components of the TEO System:

  • TEOZ — for the traction power supply field,
  • TEOR — for the reserve (backup) traction power supply field,
  • TEOD — for the incoming/rectifier unit field,
  • TEOW — for the auxiliary power field,
  • TEOM — for the return cable field,
  • TEOK — communication unit (remote control/engineering channel),
  • TEOU — quick-breaker interlock controller,
  • TEOG — Gamma filter controller (for 3.3kV DC),
  • TEONAP  — Overvoltage and undervoltage protection controller,
  • TEOL — Disconnector control unit.

An additional component of the TEO system is the ground fault protection (GFP).
